I_AM

I_AM stands for: Improvisation, Awareness, and Movement.
Robbeduz developed their movement practice I_AM (Improvisation Awareness and Movement) since 2019. Which continuously keeps evolving, and explores the contrast of deep meditative and celebrative work in relation to queerness. The movement practice is a buildup of stepping into awareness, through bodyscans and slowing down. Two facets are discovered ‘The body as an instrument,’ and ‘The body as an organism.’ Transferring energy and focus from analytic towards instinctive and from there combining animalistic energy with awareness. This will be applied while further exploring energies (masculine/feminine/mixtures), embodiment and exhibition with confidence. I_AM is where dancers are invited to claim their ownership of movement and body through research. Breaking down the performative relation with the body. A journey with endless alternation between organism to instrument, from identity expression to non-performativity. Meditation and communication. Work-out to undoing and rest.

Instead of result driven, Nimanong wants to be present within this highly complex puzzle of life. Nimanong discovered as queer identity a lot through Ballroom Culture, tools gathered are evolving the contemporary dance research.
Queerness here is not about sexual-orientation, but its is about breaking the status quo through liberation of body and mind. Freedom of sexual-expression can be part of this. Queer expression can be a great tool to discover ‘how as dancer not to hide behind movement,’ and how to work from inside out.
Inside out, is a term often discussed in their creations.

Different elements can look like contradictory influences, Nimanong sees them as enriching and completing each other, expanding the dancer's toolbox and opening paths towards innovative mindsets. As a maker too, Nimanong conceptually blends known-imagery with bodily exploration, playing with the abstract forms of familiar themes like hair-whips or ballet postures.

When dance becomes expression….
“It’s not about being a good or bad dancer, human or artist. Because both can be interesting. For research that I share, we spent time finding moments to express the suppressed, to discover, find nostalgia and tenderness within this liberation.
And this is all hidden in dance: the body, movement, the perception of time and space. But also in visual art, fashion and A.I……
Through interdisciplinary teams, I built realms for every project. To unlearn, and be taught, to transmute and take a next step, by step, by step. Together and alone, healing, creating, grounding.”
